Crowdsourcing Innovation with provides a gateway for government agencies to encourage the public to develop some of their next key initiatives. In most cases, they involve the development of a technical solution using existing data for analysis or tools for making information and resources more readily available. For example, the Small Business Administration (SBA) is sponsoring a competition in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) to “spur the development, implementation, and improvement of online tools that will let entrepreneurs learn about the business startup process in their area.” The SBA’s Startup in a Day Competition will award up to $1.35 million to individuals and communities that are award winners. Such crowdsourcing approaches not only create engagement and deeper understanding within a community but allow agencies to pursue ideas and achieve objectives that could be difficult on their own.
